In anticipation of their new album, Manticore, American folk band Shovels & Rope released two new singles: ‘Bleed Me’ and ‘The Show’. The band, and couple’s, new album explores the ups and downs of married musician life and parenting. Manticore reveals the more personal and intimate aspects of the couple’s relationship and life. “It’s not heavy metal, but in our guts, it feels a bit like Heavy Metal,” says Michael Trent of the band’s new album, Manticore due Feb. 18, 2022, will mark ten years since Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent released their debut album O’ Be Joyful, the first formally billed as “Shovels & Rope.”
‘Bleed Me’ is a tender ode to their children about their love and support for them. They reflect on how parenthood has changed them for the better and how it is the greatest gift either of them have ever received.
‘The Show’, written during the pandemic, highlights the roller coaster of emotions we all experienced during quarantine. The band states that this album, especially this song, allowed them to do some self-reflection and be vulnerable with themselves and each other.
