HI-FI kicked off outdoor concerts in Fountain Square last Friday (April 17th) with the opening of HI-FI Annex (1065 St. Patrick Street, Indianapolis). Friday featured popular indie garage rock band The Nude Party and Saturday featured local heroes Johnny Socko (Sold Out). Over 40 shows are already announced and on sale with over 75 shows planned for the 7th and final season. Fans can look forward to a great lineup of all ages shows featuring performances from The Beths, Mannequin Pussy, Enter Shikari, Fruit Bats, Daniel Donatos Cosmic Country, Julia Wolf, Built To Spill , and more — the 2026 season promises to be the venue’s most dynamic yet.

HI-FI Annex is open to fans and families of all ages and offers a full entertainment experience when combined with the amenities of the HI-FI’s three venues. Fans are encouraged to view the full lineup of announced concerts and secure tickets while they’re still available. With this being the final opportunity to experience an outdoor show at HI-FI Annex, demand is already high.

Since 2020, HI-FI Annex has emerged as one of Indy’s mainstay outdoor concert venues hosting major acts like Band of Horses, Future Islands, The Breeders, Shakey Graves, Wynonna Judd, American Football, Circle Jerks, Larry Fleet, Broken Social Scene, Bahamas, The Toadies, Trampled By Turtles, Allen Stone, Houndmouth, Atmosphere, Afghan Whigs & The Church, Built To Spill, Nolan Taylor, G-Flip, Amyl & The Sniffers Lee Fields, Vincent Mason, Crane Wives, Cuco, Tennis, Betty Who, The Disco Biscuits, Origami Angel, Scene Queen, The War & Treaty, Sharon Van Etten, Inhaler, Durand Jones & The Indications, Sir Chloe, Parmalee and many more.

Like many pop-up stages and businesses that emerged during the COVID-19 era, HI-FI Annex operated under temporary regulatory exemptions that are no longer in place. The continued challenges and expenses around zoning, permits and civic support have made continued outdoor operation increasingly difficult. HI-Fi is currently exploring options to shift the Annex operation indoors and provide year round programming.

  • Indiana State Fairgrounds Announces Expansion of Hoosier Lottery Stage
  • Booking partnership with MOKB Presents
  • New design will turn seasonal attraction into state-of-the-art year-round concert and event destination
  • The Indiana State Fair Commission today formally announced plans for a multi-million dollar expansion and renovation for its on-campus boutique amphitheater, the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage, set to be completed in time for the 2026 Indiana State Fair. The venue is located in the heart of Indianapolis and has the infrastructure and accessibility of the Indiana State Fairgrounds complete with ample parking and varying capacity configurations in a familiar and unmatched setting for all Hoosiers to enjoy.

The enhancements for the Hoosier Lottery Stage will include improvements to all facets of the venue including:

    • New stage and expansion – 60’x40’ main stage with two 30’x40’ wings
    • Added roof height – 30’ from stage deck to bottom of roof structure
    • Total roof load capacity upgrade – 92,000 lbs.
    • Brand new dual 10’x18’ LED video walls (flown stage left and right)
    • Flexible seating capacity setups – 5,000-7,500 (depending on general admission or reserved seated shows or a mix of both general admission and reserved seating)

“Enhancing the Hoosier Lottery Stage concert area is an important investment for the future of the Indiana State Fairgrounds experience. These improvements allow us to better serve our guests, attract top-tier entertainment, and continue providing unforgettable moments for Hoosiers each summer, including outside of the Fair,” said Anna Whelchel, Chief Marketing & Revenue Officer for the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center.

For years, the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage has been a major part of the annual Indiana State Fair where it welcomes internationally known artists of all genres. As the centerpiece of the State Fair’s entertainment lineup, it has built a powerful reputation among artists and audiences alike as a must-play stage on the State Fair circuit. Past performers on the Hoosier Lottery Free Stage include Babyface, Tyler Childers, STYX, The Beach Boys, Melissa Etheridge, Boyz II Men, The Fray, Chase Rice, Max McNown, Barenaked Ladies, Jesse McCartney, Josh Turner, Kansas, Casting Crowns, Patti LaBelle, for King & Country, Rick Springfield, Buddy Guy, Dogstar ft. Keanu Reeves and many, many more. The renovation will be designed and built to not only enhance the State Fair experience, but to create a true concert facility and event venue accessible 365 days a year.

Today, the State Fairgrounds also announced a partnership where Indiana-based concert promotions company, MOKB Presents will program and book the Hoosier Lottery Stage during non-State Fair dates.

“The Hoosier Lottery Stage at the Indiana State Fairgrounds is an excellent addition to our portfolio of venues that we represent in Indiana,” said Dan Kemer, Co-Owner and VP of Programming for MOKB Presents. “This renovation and expansion will serve as a great opportunity for artists, managers and agents looking for an alternative outdoor Midwest-based venue in the 5,000-7,500 capacity range. And, it’s a facility that Hoosiers are already familiar with and will now be able to enjoy throughout the year.”

“For us, the partnership with MOKB Presents is a strategic step forward—allowing us to maximize the potential of our facilities, expand our impact within the Indianapolis concert scene, and create more year-round opportunities for Hoosiers to connect and celebrate at this iconic institution,” said Anna Whelchel, Chief Marketing & Revenue Officer for the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center.

HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW STUDIO ALBUM HIGHWAY PRAYERS OUT SEPTEMBER 27 ON REPRISE RECORDS

Don’t miss two nights of Billy Strings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, October 11th and 12th, 2024 – Get tickets HERE

GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician Billy Strings recently released his epic new song, “Stratosphere Blues / I Believe in You,” alongside an accompanying music video. Listen to the song HERE and watch the official video HERE.

The track is the latest unveiled from Highway Prayers, Strings’ recently announced new record, which will be released September 27 on Reprise Records (pre-order here). Produced by Strings and Jon Brion (Fiona Apple, Mac Miller, Aimee Mann), the album consists of 20 original songs including the previously released track, “Leadfoot,” of which American Songwriter praises, “Strings is one of, if not the most, imaginative artists currently playing the game…a masterpiece of the 21st-century version of counter-culture.”

Recorded in Los Angeles and Nashville, the album features Strings and his longtime band—Billy Failing (banjo, vocals), Royal Masat (bass, vocals), Jarrod Walker (mandolin, vocals) and Alex Hargraves (fiddle)—as well as additional contributions from Brion (bass, drums, percussion), Chamberlain (drums), Jerry Douglas (dobro), Jason Carter (fiddle), Lindsay Lou (backing vocals), Nathaniel Smith (cello), Taneka Samone (backing vocals), Cory Henry (piano), Peter “Madcat” Ruth (harmonica, jaw harp) and Victor Furtado (clawhammer banjo).

Strings and his band will tour throughout this year including upcoming stops at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum (two nights), New Orleans’ UNO Lakefront Arena (three nights), Clarkston, MI’s Pine Knob Music Theatre (two nights), Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse (two nights), Baltimore’s CFG Bank Arena (two nights), Memphis’ FedEx Forum (two nights) and Austin’s Moody Center. Additionally, Strings will return with his annual Renewal weekend in Buena Vista, CO on September 27 and 28, which has once again sold out. Ticket details can be found at www.billystrings.com/tour.

Raised in Michigan and now based in Nashville, Strings is known as one of music’s most compelling artists. The new studio album follows the recent release of Strings’ first live album, Billy Strings Live Vol. 1 (stream/purchase HERE), which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums chart. Showcasing his electrifying concerts, the record features Strings performing some of his most beloved songs—including “Dust in a Baggie,” “Away From The Mire,” and “Turmoil & Tinfoil”—recorded at venues around the world including Paris’ La Cigale, Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, Austin’s Moody Center, Atlanta’s State Farm Arena and more.

Strings’ latest full-length album, Me/And/Dad, which features Strings alongside his dad, Terry Barber, was released in 2022 and earned a nomination for Best Bluegrass Album at this year’s GRAMMY Awards. The product of a longtime dream, Me/And/Dad consists of new versions of fourteen bluegrass and country classics that the two have been playing together since Strings was a young child.

Since his 2017 debut, Strings has been awarded Best Bluegrass Album at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards, Artist of the Year at the 2023 and 2022 Americana Music Awards, Entertainer of the Year at the 2023, 2022 and 2021 International Bluegrass Music Awards, Best New Headliner at the 2022 Pollstar Awards and Breakthrough Artist of the Pandemic at the 2021 Pollstar Awards among several other accolades. He has also performed on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” PBS’ “Austin City Limits” and “Bluegrass Underground” as well as countless sold-out shows worldwide.

“Nobody needs a bunch of middle-aged white guys with guitars,” said Don DiLego in response to Fantastic Cat’s untraditional press photos of the members wearing comically large cat masks. If you love Americana, Folk, a touch of rock and roll, and  have a great sense of humor, then you can’t miss Fantastic Cat’s Indianapolis debut on August 28th at HI-FI.

Recommended If You Like: Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Noah Kahan, Briston Maroney, Huey Mack, Joe Moreland.

It’s an age-old saying that if your intentions are clear, the world will notice. Singer/songwriters Anthony D’Amato, Brian Dunne, Don DiLego, and Mike Montali decided to take a quick break from the exhausting stresses that the music industry presents to have a little fun. This decision birthed a lighthearted side project by the name of Fantastic Cat, and its subsequent records titled “The Very Best of Fantastic Cat” and “Now That’s What I Call Fantastic Cat.” Sure enough, the project birthed from the pure love of creating art with friends has attracted widespread attention. Rolling Stone dubbed them as the “Harlem Globetrotters of Americana,” and their debut album “The Very Best of Fantastic Cat” earned them their national TV debut, sold-out headline dates around the US and Europe, festival performances everywhere from Sundance to Take Root, a song in the Showtime series Tulsa King, and a 50th anniversary take on Wings’ “Band On The Run” produced by legendary producer Butch Walker.

Individually, each member of Fantastic Cat boasts their own impressive resume along with a litany of critical acclaim. Paste declared Don DiLego’s latest album a “stunner.” NPR said Anthony D’Amato “sings and writes in the tradition of Bruce Springsteen or Josh Ritter.” Rolling Stone called Brian Dunne’s new record “the sleeper album of the year” and praised Mike Montali’s band, Hollis Brown, as “the soundtrack for a late-night drive through the American heartland.” Collectively, though, the four transcend their respective roots, emerging as a velvet-clad rock and roll cooperative far greater than the sum of its parts.

Despite this, the foursome uses the term “supergroup” in a playful manner. Don DiLego told Charlottesville’s “The Daily Progress” that “What we had first was the music; it wasn’t a gimmick. It isn’t a comedy band. It’s funny, but we’re not telling jokes.” Each member is serious about their songwriting, but Fantastic Cat will always be a place bred from serendipity.

“The Very Best of Fantastic Cat” was a showcase of each member’s individual songwriting ability. However, their newest album “Now That’s What I Call Fantastic Cat,” is their first amalgamation of the members’ combined songwriting abilities. Some would describe this as their magnum opus, but most would describe this as “purr-fection.”

The group will perform live at HI-FI in Indianapolis Wednesday, August 28th.  Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering their music, you won’t want to miss this intimate show.

Tickets are on sale for $20 in advance or $25 at the door on the night of the show. Purchase tickets online or stop by the Virginia Ave. Mercantile & Box Office in Fountain Square (1043 Virginia Ave. Suite 2) to purchase tickets with no service fees.

“Originally created out of necessity, the Annex transformed over the last three years as a catalyst for tourism and visitor traffic to our neighborhood and played a huge role in the growth of the Fountain Square music scene.
