The triumphant rapper, songwriter, and producer redveil will perform selections from his newest album, sankofa, at HI-FI on March 4th.
Known for his bright and lively vocals, vibrant performances, and remarkable albums (all composed and produced solo), redveil has made a name for himself as one of the most prominent up-and-coming rappers of the decade. His newest album, sankofa, will be released on December 4th to help kick off the sankofa tour.
Sankofa stands as the fourth full-length album that redveil has released in his nine years as an active musician. It is his most vulnerable work yet, drawing inspiration from a vital Ghanaian proverb: “it is not taboo to go back for what you have forgotten.”
Though entirely self-composed and produced, sankofa stands out from its predecessors by adopting a more collaborative approach. The rising artist took advantage of his new environment in California, recording most of the album in professional studios equipped with Rhodes pianos, synths, and session musicians. These improvements allowed him to direct a lush, dynamic sound with complete control, demonstrating his unique ability to blend new sounds in ambitious experimentation. Additionally, he featured Grammy-nominated vocalist Carolyn Malachi and Smino on his previously released singles “lone star” and “mini me.”
His experimentation with hip-hop, reggae, R&B, and soul, combined with his unique perspectives and feelings with the album, helped create the masterpiece that is sankofa. The whole album will be released on December 4th on all platforms.
To celebrate the release of his transformative new album, redveil will tour North America on the sankofa tour. He will be performing at HI-FI on March 4th, where guests 18+ can listen to his newest creations in the heart of Fountain Square.
